Endorsement Gone Wrong?? Artist Nicky Jam Pulls back his Trump endorsement after controversial rally
This announcement comes after Trump very controversial rally last friday at Madison State Garden, where many of the present event speakers have gone viral for saying outlandish things. However the speaker that has stirred up the most controversy was comedian Tony Hinchcliffe calling Puerto Rico a 'Trash Island' along with several other racially insensitive jokes. Since Friday, many puerto-ricans have called for trump to condemn the speaker's actions, which his campaign remained sliencent for several day before saying they didn't know who hired the comedian to speak at the event. This incident is very bad for the Trump campaign as it is pushing away a group of voters that have a very large presence in key battleground states like Pennsylvania.
This incident has also reminded voters of the incident of Trump throwing paper towels at the victims of Hurricane Maria which wrecked the island of Puerto Rico back in 2018.
As we seen by Nicky Jam's retraction, many puerto ricans have been offended by this stunt and some are even pulling their vote. By losing the reggaeton singer, Trump have may just lost one major part of the minority vote. And with election day less than 6 days away, the chances of getting those voters back are slim.

ReplyDeleteI think this really defines what the Trump campaign is all about. Although I am a bit surprised to see the artist taking back his endorsement. There is obviously a lot of controversy that goes into supporting Trump at this point in time, and usually when there are people who participate, they have already either been praised or "blacklisted" in a sense. Whether Nicky Jam was genuinely offended or trying to save face, this was a definite blow to the Trump campaign. I also find it humorous that a "joke" like this would even be said this day in age, but again, I am not surprised.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy Nicky Jam pulled back his endorsement, but this isn't Trump's first time degrading Hispanic people. Even though it wasn't him who made those remarks, Trump allowed it at his rally. Trump's whole campaign has always been based on getting rid of Mexican people, building a wall to keep them out of America or name calling Hispanic people labeling them thugs or criminals. Nicky Jam only seen the problem when Puerto Rico was being disrespected. It should have been a problem or issue when Mexicans were been degrading. I think a lot of people don't care or look past certain comments because it's not directed to them. But since this comment included him, he felt offended.
